A Network Administrator has full administrative privileges over an organization’s Brosix private network, allowing them to access the “Web Control Panel” where they can add and remove users, purchase licenses, and adjust user settings. These privileges make the Network Administrator’s role crucial to the smooth functioning of any Brosix network.

Setting a New Administrator upon the Old Administrator’s Departure

In cases where the current Network Administrator leaves an organization, and the organization has no access to the Web Control Panel, it will be necessary to access their account and set a new administrator. There are two ways to do so, either through accessing the old administrator’s email account (if able), or contacting Brosix customer service.

Changing Administrators through the Old Administrator’s Email Account

The simplest way to set a new administrator is by accessing the former administrator’s email account and using the “forgotten password option.” After opening this web page, enter the administrator’s email address and click the “Reset Password” button. Upon clicking the button an automated email will be sent to the administrator’s email address with instructions as to how to reset the password.

Once the password is reset you can access the team network and choose a new Network Administrator by either changing the current administrator and/or add multiple administrators.

Changing Administrators by Contacting Brosix Customer Service

Customers who do not have access to the old Network Administrator’s email account should contact Brosix Customer Service for further instructions.

Receiving Files

Brosix provides users with unlimited in terms of size and quantity peer to peer file sharing. For information on how to send files, please see this tutorial.

Once a contact sends you a file or files you will see a notification on your computer informing you that “(contact name) wants to send you files.” Click on this notification and you will be directed to the “File Transfer Request” window. Please note that if you are currently in an active chat with this contact this window will open directly. From here you have three options:

Receive file through Brosix

  • Save the file to your pre-designated location which is listed in the window by clicking on the “Save” button
  • Choose a new destination to save the file by clicking on the “Save as” button. This will launch a window where you can select your preferred destination
  • Reject the file transfer by clicking on the “Reject” button

Once you choose to save your file, the “Brosix- File Transfer” window will launch where you can see the status of the transfer.

Once the transfer is complete you can choose to open the file directly by clicking on the “Open” button, locate the file by clicking on the “Locate” button, or close the window by clicking on the “Close” button

Scanning Received Files with Anti-Virus Software

Brosix allows you to scan incoming files after integrating your preferred anti-virus and malware software into the Brosix app. Once set up, this feature allows you to scan all files that you receive through the app.

You can set up the Anti-Virus Check in few simple steps. Please note that this feature is deactivated by default for new users, and they will need to activate it.

Setting up Anti-virus Software Integration

You can integrate the anti-virus software of your chose by clicking on the “Brosix” menu and selecting the “Settings” option. From the “Settings” window select the “Plug-ins” option and double click on the “File Transfer” plug-in.

The “File Transfer Settings” window will now open, where you will see a range of different features related to file transfers. From here you can select whether to close the send and receive dialogue boxes after files are transferred, allow the sending of files from Windows Explorer, save the last save file path, and chose your preferred destination for saved files.

In order to complete the process of integrating your anti-virus software, click on the “Anti-virus settings” button. You will see that upon opening this window, the Brosix app has automatically recognized the anti-virus software on your computer and selected the option to “automatically scan received files.” If you would like to select a different software, select the “use custom tools” option and locate your preferred software through the “browse” option.

The P2P file transfer feature allows you to send a file or group of files of unlimited size to one or more contacts. The files are compressed, encrypted and sent through direct communication channels, making the file transfer feature secure and fast.

You can use the file transfer feature in several ways, grouped in two main methods: drag and drop, and manual selection.

Drag and Drop

You can transfer files by dragging and dropping the file(s) or folder(s) you would like to transfer directly into several locations: a contact name in your contact list, a text chat window, a chat room window, or an active voice or video call window.

  • Dragging and dropping a file or folder onto a name in your contact list

The other method for transferring files is by manually selecting the “Send Files” icon in the contact list, in a chat window, in a chat room window, through the “Actions” menu, or by right-clicking the file or folder and sending it directly to the Brosix application, all explained below.

To send file(s) or folder(s) through the contact list, select the “Send Files” icon. After selecting the icon, the “Select Users” window will open allowing you to select which users to send the file(s) or folder(s) to from among your contacts currently online. You can add and remove users to the “Selected Contacts” list by selecting one or more users and clicking on the respective button. After adding the users you would like to send the file(s) to, click the “OK” button, and the “Send Files or Folders to (contact name)” dialogue box will open.

Note: if you first selected the intended recipient(s) in your contact list and then selected the “Send Files” icon, you will begin the process with the next step.

From the “Send Files or Folders to (contact name)” dialogue box you can choose whether to “Send files” or “Send folders.” After selecting one of the options the “Select Files” window will open allowing you to select the file(s) or folder from your computer that you would like to send. Once you make your selection, click open to send the file(s) or folder.

Once you have clicked the “OK” button, a dialogue box will appear showing you the status of your transfer. From here you can see the transfer status, cancel the transfer, or select the “Close when download completes” option to close the window automatically.

After clicking on the “Actions” menu, select the option “Send Files.

If you have selected the action menu without having first selected a user or users in the contact list, then the “Select Users” window will open and you should follow the steps outlined above from that point.

If you have already selected a user or users in the contact list then the “Send Files or Folders to (contact name)” dialogue box will open and you should follow the steps above from that point.

After clicking on the “Send Files” icon in either a chat window or a chat room window the “Send Files or Folders to (contact name)” dialogue box and you should follow the steps above from that point.

You can send one or more files or folders by right-clicking on your selection, selecting the “Send to” option and selecting “Brosix.

Once you have made your selection, click the “OK” button and your file transfer will begin and a dialogue will appear showing you the status of your transfer, as described above.

The Screen Sharing feature allows you to share your screen with a contact so that they view what you are viewing, as well as grant them access to directly control your desktop (remote desktop). Sending a Screenshot through the Contact List, Chat Window or Chat Room Window Once you have clicked on the “Send Screenshot” icon in one of these 3 locations a “Screenshot to (contact name)” window will open with the screenshot itself along with a control bar at the bottom of the window. The Send Screenshot feature allows you to quickly send a picture of your desktop to a contact or group of contacts with a few simple steps.

You can send a screenshot in numerous convenient ways: by clicking on the “Send Screenshot” icon in the contact list after selecting one or more online contacts, in the contact list without initially selecting a contact, in a chat window, in a chat room window, to an entire group in certain types of contact lists, through the “Actions” menu, and with hotkeys, all described below.

Sending a Screenshot through the Contact List, Chat Window or Chat Room Window

Once you have clicked on the “Send Screenshot” icon in one of these 3 locations a “Screenshot to (contact name)” window will open with the screenshot itself along with a control bar at the bottom of the window.

Sending a Screenshot to a Group

You can send a screenshot to an entire group through the contact list if you are using the “compact” or “extended” contact list view in Brosix 4.0. To send a screenshot to a group, select the group and click the “Send Screenshot” icon in the contact list. After clicking the icon, follow the steps above in order to edit and send the screenshot.

Sending a Screenshot via Hot Keys

In order to send a screenshot with Hot Keys, you must first enable this function in your Brosix profile. You can do so by clicking on the “Brosix” menu and selecting the “Settings” option. From the “Settings” window click on the “Personal” tab, then click on the “Hotkeys” tab, select the option “Enable Hotkeys,” and click the “Apply” button.

Once you enable the hotkeys function, you can send a screenshot by pressing the “Alt” and “F12” buttons. After pressing the hotkeys the “Select Users” window will open. From the “Select Users” window you must first select which users to send the screenshot to from among your contacts currently online. After adding the users you would like to send the screenshot to, click the “OK” button and follow the steps above in order to edit and send the screenshot.

You can also take a screenshot of your Brosix app by holding the “Ctrl” button and selecting the “Send Screenshot” icon in the contact list. This allows you to send screenshots of any aspect of your Brosix app, for example a text conversation or your contact list.
